When Margaret returns to the living room, her Aunt Shelagh is sitting in the armchair with a drink. Aunt Shelagh has been drinking heavily ever since Margaret’s mother died. She meets a boy named Phillip there. They become friends and start talking about God. Margaret tells Phillip that she doesn’t believe in God, but Phillip says that he does. One day, Margaret’s period starts. She is very scared and doesn’t know what to do. She goes to the drugstore and buys a pads. She comes home and hides them under her bed. The next day, Margaret’s friends invite her to go see a movie with them. Margaret doesn’t want to go, but her friends convince her. The movie is about a teenage girl who gets pregnant. Margaret is very upset by the movie and leaves early. When she gets home, she finds that her Aunt Shelagh has been drinking again. Shelagh starts to cry and tells Margaret that she is sorry for everything. She says that she is going to drink herself to death. Margaret is very worried about her Aunt and decides to go talk to God. She goes to the toilet and prays, asking God to help her Aunt. She then has a vision of her Aunt in a hospital bed, surrounded by family and friends. The next day, Margaret goes to the mall with her friends again. This time, they go to a store called “Woolworth’s”. Margaret sees Mrs. Dubrow there and she is very nice to her. Later that day, Margaret goes to the YMCA to swim again. Phillip is there and they start talking about God. Margaret tells Phillip that she believes in God now. The next day, Margaret’s period ends. She is very relieved and happy. A few days later, Margaret’s Aunt Shelagh dies. At the funeral, Margaret sees Mrs. Dubrow. They talk and Mrs. Dubrow tells Margaret that she is going to be alright. After the funeral, Margaret goes home and prays. She thanks God for helping her Aunt and for giving her the strength to get through everything.
